Claire’s medical journey began before birth, when prenatal imaging revealed a rare and severe congenital heart condition, including hypoplastic left heart syndrome and multiple additional cardiac defects. With an uncertain prognosis and no curative treatment available, she underwent her first open-heart surgery just hours after birth, followed by a prolonged and complicated recovery that included life-support measures during her first days of life.
Over the following years, Claire required multiple open-heart surgeries, numerous cardiac catheterizations, and extensive medical monitoring. Her clinical course included significant setbacks not typically seen in similar cases, alongside intensive therapies to support her development. Despite these challenges, she reached major childhood milestones, including learning to walk, read, ride a bicycle, and attend school.
As she grew older, the limitations of surgical palliation became increasingly evident. Her heart and circulation were no longer able to meet the demands of her growing body. After comprehensive evaluation, and to preserve long-term quality of life, Claire was officially placed on the heart transplant waiting list on April 24, 2024.
In July of 2025 an unexpected complication occurred where Claire is now permanently in the hospital awaiting transplant.
Our thoughts and hope remain with Claire and her family during this time ♥️
